Onsen. One of those musts when going to Japan.
What no-one told you about was that you really, REALLY shouldn't be prone to dehydration when going to one, and if so, then drink one helluva lot water.
So. What was called "swimming pool" might have been somewhere near deep to Japanese people, but I could walk on my knees. However, the waterslide was fun. And I beat everyone at sitting in the sauna - my Scandinavian heritage, no doubt (*coughironycough*). That is, I managed to sit there for a while longer than them, then take a dip into cold water and seated myself back in the sauna for a while. Until my pulse told me I really should get out.
Damn this. Too physically unfit, too weak body. It is burning out before its time, of course, I realized that long ago.
Though, my outward appearance is ravishing. To the noticeble drool of Japanese males. Icky.
Anyway.
The outdoor-onsen pools were a treat. The warmest of the three became my favourite and I lazily decided I could just as well reach the stadium of boiled octopus. Sunny, cool mountain air and warm water. Rather sw33t.
Then, me and two other girls got up. Lunch time! I decided to take the REAL onsen experience, nude bathing in reeeeally hot water, afterwards. Yeah. Rrright.
Lunch was traditional, and served in a tatami-mat room with cushions. Yay, a real treat, I tell you that! Plus I had a corteous Japanese guy whose name eludes me, who could show me discreetly the right was of eating this or drinking that. I could picture us sitting, hundreds of years ago, in traditional clothes, around another table, another time, courteously exchanging poems. Interesting.
I missed my wolf. A lot.
Then it hit me.
MIGRAINE.
And minutes later, even though I felt it coming and thought naw, as long as I drink water it'll be allright, I was on the floor with a black sweater over my eyes. Trying not to hear, not to listen, not to move.
Someone brought me headache pills - though of course the only ones that actually works were in the dorm - and later two blankets. I have no idea who, or if they were the same person. I couldn't open my eyes.
When I finally could move, I staggered down to the dressing room and took my stuff. Not my hairbrush though, which to me is a serious loss. Damn.
Then Ramone showed me the resting room and I slept away some hours. A couple of glasses of water, then I had to survive a one-hour bus trip back to AIU.
Yep. Migraine brings me to my knees for the rest of the day. But after my third pill, this time of the right sort, I managed to eat dinner and get enough energy to cry my eyes out over being SO FSCKING FAR AWAY that it hurts physically. My fish tried to kiss my nose a little, and I could hear wolf whisper to me from far away, but the sadness was too great.
I wasn't able to fall asleep until after 1'o clock.
And today I was kind of soft in the head and did not do much, apart from standing up, walking around the small room, then sitting down again without finding anything to read. Great. Just fantastic.
So, the true onsen experience will have to wait. That's just like me.
